British Cycling and Coral Eyewear are excited to announce a partnership that will see the British sustainable brand provide performance and lifestyle sunglasses to the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT) staff and athletes, and offer an exclusive discount to British Cycling members.
Coral Eyewear has been annouced as theofficial supplier to the Great Britain Cycling Team on a multi-year agreement, while British Cycling members will receive an exclusive discount on the eyewear range which is created with recycled plastic and plant-based acetates.
Established in 2019, Coral Eyewear is a British brand, creating glasses and sunglasses with ECONYLⓇ regenerated nylon - a recycled material composed of fishing nets from the sea, recovered carpet waste and plastic out of landfill.
The brand has several existing partnerships in the world of sport with the LTA, Mahindra Racing, Kent Cricket and more. Coral Eyewear has also partnered with Saint Piran, the first professional cycling team from Cornwall. With approximately 120 independent opticians as stockists and a retail partnership with Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages, the brand delivers their recycled frames with plastic-free packaging via a carbon-neutral delivery system.
Coral Eyewear will supply GBCT staff and athletes with stylish sunglasses and will be launching cycling performance sunglasses in Autumn this year. The GBCT medical directors are working closely with the Coral Eyewear team during the product creation process to help improve eye health within the organisation for overall wellbeing and to identify potential performance gains. GBCT and Coral Eyewear will also collaborate on a range of initiatives aimed at promoting cycling as a sustainable form of transport and encouraging more people to embrace eco-friendly practices.
Commenting on the partnership, Stephen Park CBE, Great Britain Cycling Team Performance Director said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Coral Eyewear on board as the team’s official eyewear supplier and look forward to developing the scope of the partnership over the coming years.
“It's brilliant to find a partner that supports our sustainability objectives while also providing top quality products for our staff and riders, but we have also brought them on board for a wider strategic purpose.
“In addition to the performance glasses riders wear during races, generally protective eyewear is incredibly important for our wider team. When long days are spent at outside competition or under harsh velodrome lights, working to find ways that minimise the eye strain and resulting fatigue of that is imperative. Our staff and riders will be sporting the range at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow over the next two weeks.”
George Bailey, the co-founder of Coral Eyewear, said: "We're incredibly excited to be partnering with British Cycling. Our shared commitment to sustainability and performance makes this a perfect match. Through supplying some of the country's best young athletes with sustainable eyewear and working together with the organisation to promote the importance of eco-friendly practices in sport, I believe we can help create real impact within the cycling and eyewear industries.”
Cycling fans can look out for GBCT staff and athleteswearing Coral Eyewear in Glasgow from 3-13 August at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.
