Regional BMX Freestyle Academy (RFA)

British Cycling is thrilled to announce the launch of the Regional BMX Freestyle Academy (RFA), designed to nurture and develop young talent in the exciting world of BMX Freestyle.  Geared toward riders aged 10-15 years old, this activity aims to provide young athletes with a platform to learn and progress on their journey with BMX Freestyle.

Setting the Stage for Future Champions

BMX Freestyle has been steadily gaining popularity in the UK thanks to the inspiring performances of riders on both the national and international stages.  With the launch of the Regional Freestyle Academy, we are taking a significant step forward in ensuring the growth and sustainability of this exhilarating sport.

The academy is not just another training programme, it's the first step on a well-structured pathway to success.  For many riders, it's a golden opportunity to learn, train and evolve their skills, all while being guided by experienced coaches who are passionate about the sport of BMX Freestyle.

Getting Involved

Are you a young rider with a passion for BMX Freestyle? The BMX Freestyle Academy is now open for enrolment, and we invite all eligible riders to join us on this exciting adventure. It's not just about learning tricks; it's about becoming part of a vibrant and supportive BMX community.

How do you get on the NFA?

Riders here are typically aged 13-15. Riders will apply to be part of the NFA programme annually (usually September/October). Riders who develop late, who are new to the sport, or who are not quite ready will continue to be considered for selection throughout the entire year - the door is always open for riders to enter this stage of the pathway. For more details see the below standards and criteria, if you require more information contact talentdevelopment@britishcycling.org.uk

How is it done?

NFA sessions will generally run monthly as a larger group, as well as locally on an individual approach. Activity will connect with the GBCT programmes, Back Yard Jam Series and will utilise different skateparks across the country.

When and where do NFA sessions take place?

During the year, NFA sessions will be delivered and will align with the Back Yard Jam competition season. Activity will take place in different parts of England as well as bring a cohort of riders together in one location.

NFA Standards and Entry Criteria

Each Talent Pathway discipline, and activity, is specifically designed to develop the skills and habits of riders towards being ready for GBCT programmes, this enables riders to pursue a career as a full-time professional cyclist in that discipline.  The application and standards process can be downloaded below.
