Lewis Meadows of Cottingham Coureurs won the Suffolk round of the grass track National Endurance League with a last-lap burst in the 8-kilometre finale at Bredfield near Woodbridge.
No attack had got very far until Meadows and junior Alan Trolove (West Suffolk Whs) attacked with just over a lap to go.
Promoted by the Woodbridge-based Plomesgate Cycling Club, the event was threatened when a torrential shower hit the venue less than an hour before the start. But the good draining qualities of the Suffolk Sandlings land saved the day and after a slightly squelchy start the programme continued without interruption.
From a field of nine ladies, organiser Pete Whelan’s daughter Sarra Boyd (Clee Cycles) had wins in the 8km, 800m, and devil, but Emma Johnson (XRT/Elmy) prevailed in the Unknown Distance.
Cameron Woolsey (CC Ashwell) took the U14 &U16 omnium and also showed himself well able to hold his own in shoulder-to-shoulder battles with the seniors. The Under 12 & U10 omnium went to Robert Mercer (Colchester Rovers) while other winners included Martin Smith (Men’s Devil) Simon Daw (Unknown Distance) and Mike Tyas (800 Handicap).
British Cycling would like to thank the organising team, officials and everyone else who helped promote this event. Our sport could not exist without the hundreds of people, many of them unpaid volunteers, who put in many hours of hard work running events, activities and clubs.
