Report: South Area (Preston Park) Youth Omnium
Event: 4th June 2011
Promoted by: Preston Park Youth Cycling Club
Venue: Preston Park Track, Brighton
Report: Anthony Rogers, Preston Park Youth Cycling Club
Event Details
A hot and windy day saw a variety of success for Sussex riders and their clubs. The Youth Omnium, promoted by Preston Park Youth Cycle Club [PPYCC], saw a programme of 29 different counting events including sprints, endurance races, time trials, pursuits and elimination races. Points scored in each race produced an overall winner in each of the seven age and gender categories.
With clubs from all over the south the Sussex clean sweep in the U16s girls is particularly impressive. We have the best riders in this category and also gained 5th with Sara Gent Progressive Cycle Coaching [the eponymous club of a Sussex based business] and 7th Laura Cheesman PPYCC. The racing was fast and difficult in the blustery conditions and the standard of racing in this sport has risen progressively over the past 10 years.
