Event Details

The Brook Cycles Track League event on the 2nd June 2011 saw 10 new riders make their first appearance at the league this year which added to the quality of the racing. The warm sunny conditions were a welcome change from last week's event, which was cancelled due to rain.

In the A Class endurance league events the points were spread across a number of riders with Paul Whatmough, Shepherd Cycles, top scoring with 7 as he won the 12 lap points race and the devil in fine style. Luke Boulton, Team Wallis, won the opening 10 lap scratch producing a strong last lap that saw the field well spread.

The A Class sprint events saw some fantastic racing across their three events. In the opening Neil Potter sponsored 500m handicap, the 14 riders all came roaring down the home straight at the end with the judges just managing to place the top six in an exciting race. Sean Mayer, Lyme RC, came from a middle mark to take a very good win from long marker Ellie Coster, Bush Healthcare CRT and Dave Smith Stafford RC. The team sprint saw a very fast time winning with Dave Smith, Neil Potter and Barney Swinnerton Science in Sport.com winning this 600m event in 42.52. The six riders who made the Keirin final battled hard for the win with Barney Swinnerton surging over the line to take maximum points from Steve Cronshaw, Brereton Wheelers and Ryan Whatmough.

The B Class events saw first-time rider at the league Dane Walker, Blueleaf B.Smithy, score 8 points with his win coming in the Course de Primes. Christian Braybrooke, Team Velocity, won the opening 8 lap scratch before being moved up to the A Class league. The other B race was the devil which was won by Dave Fearon of Weaver Valley CC.

The Youth events saw some very close races with Sallie Birchall, Lyme RC taking the opening block handicap race followed by Joel Partington taking good wins in the Devil and the 6 lap scratch races which helped him top score in this league with 7 points to retain his overall lead.

The final race of the night was the usual 10 mile handicap race with the A Class riders only catching the B's with 8 laps to go. With four laps to go Ryan Whatmough, Will Thomas and Christian Braybrooke escaped and looked like they would contest the top three places. However James Notley produced a fast 1 1/2 laps effort which closed the gap to the three leaders at the bell. Ryan still had plenty left in his legs though as he attacked again to take an impressive win from Christian. Veteran rider Adrian Adgar, Balanced performance, took a good third place from the closing bunch sprint.

The Freewheelers races saw 11 riders compete and the top point's scorers were as follows in each group;

Group 1 James Duncalf Lyme RC
Group 2 Holly Mulroy
Group 3 Edward Mulroy
