Sponsors, Continental tyres will roll out their tyre amnesty at the Welsh Wild West sportive in Aberystwyth on Sunday May 25.
With three distances on offer, all within the county of Ceredigion, the event promises quiet roads, stunning scenery which is both challenging and exhilarating. Cyclists who experience the Welsh Wild West will go away with some great memories of new climbs, sweeping descents, great feeds and a warm welcome!
Riders can exchange any tyres fitted to their machines for a pair of Continental’s new Grand Sport Race tyre in either 700x23 or 25mm. Continental staff will be on hand to fit the new tyres to competitors bikes on the day.
Continental are also providing technical support for the event and will have three vehicles on the route at all times throughout the day, plus two motorcycle support riders who will also carry essential spares.
In addition, local members of MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) are also providing mobile marshals to assist static marshals, and the event will have a ‘human being’ at every junction on the course as well as signage. The MAG riders will also be carrying tubes, levers and Co2’s for any puncture victims needing assistance.
The tyre amnesty will take place throughout the day of the sportive from 7am through til late afternoon so that riders can either take advantage before starting, or if they prefer to wait until afterwards.
More details on this can be found at www.tyre-amnesty.co.uk
All route files can be downloaded at www.abercyclefest.com/sportive where there is a wealth of advice on what to expect and how to prepare for a sportive of this nature.
The Mynach (Monk) route is the most popular, covering 70 miles including the five mile climb up to Nant y Moch reservoir and also the two miles climb of the Arch which will be a timed section with a feed zone at the summit.
Brave souls can carry on south to extend their day and complete the Cawr (Giant). This beast covers some of the more challenging roads south of the county including Tychrug near Felinfach, which is a steep mile and a half with gradients of up to 16%.
All riders will receive a goody bag from Continental, including a free inner tube and other items from sponsors Baravin, NFU Mutual, Summit Cycles and Aberystwyth University.
The sportive is the culmination of the Abercyclefest which also includes a round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series, the Conquer the Cliff urban downhill and a Film Gala evening at the National Library of Wales, all taking place over the same Bank Holiday weekend.
