Defending champion Iain Grant (Dooleys Cycles.co.uk) retained his Scottish 50-mile time trial title in windy conditions over a two-lap course based on Irvine, in Ayrshire
Adding to the 25-mile title he won three weeks ago, the 42-year-old Glasgow rider came back to the timekeeper in 1-46-53 for a margin of two and a half minutes over closest rival Silas Goldsworth (Sandy Wallace Cycles) with Sean Childs (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) taking third place in 1-50-47.
Grant also led Dooleys Cycles to the team title, Anthony Doyle and Gavin Shirley completing the scoring trio who had a margin of 48 seconds over Sandy Wallace Cycles.
Winner of the 10-mile championship in May, Anda-Jay Burgess (Sandy Wallace Cycles) claimed the women’s title in 2-04-51, beating veteran Christine McLean (Shetland Wheelers) by 31 seconds.
Later starters encountered a few showers, but the biggest obstacle was the wind which increased through the event to around 21mph by the finish although behind the riders on the longest 9.5-mile return stretch.
