Location: York Sport Cycle Circuit, York
Event: 24 August 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports/Julie Rodman
Newcomers Albarosa CC did Yorkshire racing proud in their first promotion at the York Sport circuit on a day when the sun shone for the opening race but was soon replaced by rain which had riders aquaplaning across the course by the time the women lined up for the second event.
Across the day there were vans stuck in the mud, a collapsing gazebo, torrential rain, spills and punctures, but most of all smiling faces and some excellent racing on a safe circuit for an event which made up in enthusiasm for what was lacking in the weather.

Across the day there were vans stuck in the mud, a collapsing gazebo, torrential rain, spills and punctures, but most of all smiling faces and some excellent racing on a safe circuit for an event which made up in enthusiasm for what was lacking in the weather.
The rain was tumbling down for the feature 31-lap elite with the first move coming on lap seven when Pete Barusevicus (Dirtwheels Cycles), Craig Anderson (Achieve-Skinnergate Racing), Shaun Nicholson (Blackhawk Bikes) and Alex Bottomley (Wheelbase) went away.
These four worked well together and soon gained a 20-second lead before the first primesprint, on the chasing riders. As the whistle was blown for the two primes the riders were ready for a sprint to the line, which was won by Bottomley.
The next action came with four laps to go when Daniel Webb (Team Cystic Fibrosis) attacked from the main bunch, taking him clear for fifth place as the final sprint ahead of him went down to the wire with Barusevicus, who knows every inch of the circuit, securing his fifth win of the season ahead of Anderson.
The fourth categories opened the action in the dry and attacks came thick and fast with Pete Harrison (Elite CC) and (Neil Harris (University of York CC) escaping to gain a 15-second gap which they held for 13 laps before the whistle was blown for a prime which was won by Daniel Boultby (Langdale Lightweights) as the field came back together.
The final outcome came down to a tight sprint finish won by Matthew Clements (Crosstrax) from Peter Holdsworth (Huddersfield Start Wheelers).
Conditions were horrendous for the following women’s race which ended in a one-two for GB Cycles through Brit Tate and Iona Sewell, who finished clear of the improving Seonaid Thompson, from the promoting club, in third place.
The race for third and fourth categories saw half a dozen riders come down on the hairpin bend as the rain intensified and eventually came down to an 11-rider sprint and a popular home win for Joe Wilkinson (Albarosa CC) on the lunge for the line ahead of Dan Stocchero (3 RT) and Paul Caswell (Harrogate Nova CC).
A change of clothing and the fourth categories and women were back on the start line, Michael Caley (Clifton CC) taking the verdict this time in a sprint from Ryan Firth (BBM Revolution) while Tate and Sewell repeated their earlier women’s one-two followed by Seonaid Thompson (Albarosa CC).
