Location: Hillingdon Cycle Circuit, Hayes, London
Event: 13 April 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports
Under-23 Chris Whorrall capped a dominant performance by IG-Sigma Sport in the feature race of Westerley CC’s meeting at Hillingdon by taking victory in a three-up sprint after an hour of racing in rainy conditions on the West London circuit.
Whorrall’s team were involved in every move in the race, but nothing was allowed to stay away until the winner, his team-mate Peter Hawkins and Lewis Atkins (Pedal Heaven RT) broke clear with five laps to go and quickly established a lead of 20 seconds.
The gap grew to half a minute by the finish where Atkins appeared to have defied the numerical odds, only to be denied by a late push from Whorrall which gave the Manx rider the verdict by little more than a tyre’s width in the photograph.
Jake Hales and Matt Jones led in the rest in fourth and fifth places to complete an excellent afternoon for the Sigma Sport squad.
Local boy Jo Skelton (Look Mum No Hands) underlined his liking for the circuit by winning the supporting race for third and fourth categories at the main expense of Clive Nicholls (BC Private Member).
