The Cheshire Classic, part of the National Women’s Road Race Series, has had over 120 riders enter this year’s race which takes place on Sunday 28 April in Northwich, Cheshire.
Organised by Weaver Valley CC, the race is one of the longest standing races on British Cycling’s road race calendar and last year saw Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey take the honours.
This year’s edition has seen a wealth of new sponsors including Breeze, Epic Cycles, Delamere Dairy, Roberts Bakery, De Vere Venues and Halfords.
The race also sees over £1000 of prize money with two new prize competitions including the Epic Cycles Team Prize and De Vere Venues Most Competitive rider added alongside the Delamere Dairy Intermediate Sprint prime.
“Securing national brands such as Delamere Dairy, Roberts Bakery & De Vere Venues has added a huge amount to the race, helping us raise the profile alongside investing even more into women’s cycling” commented race organiser Andy Wood.
The Cheshire Classic announced a partnership with nationwide women’s cycling network Breeze as a Women’s Cycling Development Partner in October to help introduce new riders into cycling. Halfords are offering a neutral service to riders while Delamere Dairy will be on hand offering out product samples at the finish line.
The race sees riders complete 10 laps of a 7.7-kilometre rolling circuit on the outskirts of Northwich in the heart of Cheshire, tackling a mixture of winding country road, fast flowing bypass and the notoriously short but tough climb known as the Cliff to locals.
Past winners of the Cheshire Classic read as a who is who of women’s cycling with names such as Mandy Jones, Lizzie Armitstead , Nicole Cooke and Lucy Garner. The race also has a strong Twitter following @cheshireclassic and also on Facebook. For full information about the race visit www.cheshireclassic.co.uk. The start list is announced on Monday 15 April.
