Location: Redbridge Cycling Centre, Essex
Event: 2 March 2013
Report: Snowdon Sports
London Dynamo rider James Local grabbed a comfortable victory in the warm up races at Redbridge Cycling Centre in Essex on Saturday.
The 30-year-old Wandsworth racer took advantage of some weary riders around him to open up a gap as they approached a climb and took off into the distance.
Tom Neale, 19, of Spalding CC was his nearest rival coming in some 20 seconds later with Prestige Velo CC’s Kristian Woolf crossing the line in third.
Speaking after his win, James said: “I did a couple of Hoghill Winter Series races and I did quite well, realising that I’m better making a break for it than I am in a bunch sprint.
“Today, a couple of guys got away at the start and led for ten laps but then got brought back. With a few laps to go, the bunch began to get weary over the top of the climb and I had a dig.
“I managed to get a gap and then really went for it for a couple of laps. With a lap to go, I realised I had it.
“This is my first category two win, I had a second place in three or four races last year, then this year I did three Hoghills and a Gravesend which Pedal Heaven turned up at and demolished the field. I just want to push on from here.”
