After winning the fourth category race in the opening round the previous week, Scott Gurnett (Minehead CC) secured victory in the elite race at round two of the Springtime Pursuit Series in Devon on Saturday.
The 17-year-old crossed the line nine seconds clear of his nearest rival at the end of the 33-mile race, while Oliver Pritchard (University of Exeter CC) took second and Harry Edney (North Devon Wheelers) third, another six seconds back.
Gurnett knows the roads around Broad Clyst well having trained on them several times, and put his local knowledge to good use.
Meanwhile, Joshua Bullock (Tavistock Wheelers) won a three-up sprint finish to the fourth cat race, holding off Ben Davis (Bristol RC) for the win.
And 19-year-old Natalie Grinczer (University of Birmingham) was fastest woman, winning a sprint finish from VC St Raphael rider Ellie Gillham, in a reversal of the placings from the previous week’s opening round.
