Experience got the better of youth in the Victoria CC Road Race at Ugley in Essex on Sunday, where veteran riders dominated the main places.
Colchester Rovers CC rider Richard Norris took the win in a sprint finish, the 43-year-old holding off fellow vet Mark Hurrell (Velo Schils) by just one second. Junior Hamish H|ore (Maldon & Dist CC) was relegated to third spot by inches as his senior rivals kept him off the front.
Norris covered the 59-mile race in 2:25:40, just one second ahead of Hurrell and Hore, while the rest of the riders came home in small numbers with the pace having taken its toll.
It was Norris’s second victory in as many weeks, following his win in the Team ASL360 Surrey League event 3rd cat race on August 26.
