Location: Buildwas, Telford, Shropshire
Event: 8 July 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports
Junior Elliot Jones (Paramount CRT) proved that he’s a chip off the old block with victory in his own club’s 90-km road race at Buildwas, near Telford.
Watched by his father Mike – a prolific winner in his own heyday – who was on marshalling duty, the 18-year-old Shrewsbury rider produced a winning sprint to edge out Andrew Marsh (Dinnington RC) and Alastair Young (Gosforth RC) in a tight finish and secure his first open win on the road.
Expected rain failed to materialise, and in the dry conditions a vigilant bunch made sure that any attempted breaks were quickly brought to heel to make it a day for the sprinters.
Result:
1 Elliot Jones (Paramount CRT) 2-25-00
2 Andrew Marsh (Dinnington RC)
3 Alastair Young (Gosforth RC)
4 Colin Mattinson (PSUK)
5 Alan Cooper (Wolverhampton Wheelers)
6 Matt Lee (NFTO Race)
7 David Spencer (Fibrax Wrexham RC)
8 Richard Williamson (Gannet CC)
9 Aidan Dodd (Newport CC)
10 Josh Williams (Paramount CRT) all same time
