Report: Snowdon Sports

Starting his first road race of the year, Rob Watkinson (Doncaster Wheelers) scored a deserved win from a five-strong leading group in the 80 kilometre City Road Club (Hull) road race over seven laps of the Little Weighton circuit.

The five broke away inside the first three miles of the race and worked well together as the bunch let the gap grow from an initial 35 seconds to 1-50 as the bell was rung for the final lap.

The leaders split on the drag at South Cave but had enough in hand to remain comfortably clear to claim the first five places with Watkinson taking the win from James Thompson (Hope Factory Racing), Stuart Percival (GB Fire Service), William Brown (Blackhawk Bikes) and Danny Lowthorpe (Langsett Cycles).

Steven Guymer (CP Cycles) escaped from the bunch with two laps to go to secure sixth place while the rest of the field split in two, without any accidents, with two miles to go when a horse reacted to their presence.

Result:

1 Rob Watkinson (Doncaster Wheelers)
