Colin Parry (Wilier/Live to Ride) produced a storming performance on the last lap of the Glade CC Spring Road Race to take victory.
Zappi’s CC’s Nicholas Baker broke away at the start of the race with a group of other riders.
He managed to get away from the pack, which shattered into a number of smaller groups jostling for position behind him.
At the halfway point of the race, there were eight to ten riders out at the front and Matthew James of Team Corley Cycles managed to build up a lead of around one minute.
But then on the final lap, Parry, 33, closed James down powerfully and overtook him to win by a margin of around 15 seconds.
Colin Parry said of the race: “I was sat back in the pack until about halfway through the race and then with a lap to go I was within one minute of the leader.
“I rode away with another rider and with about eight miles to go and it took me about five miles to catch Matthew in front.
“Then, on the hill on the last mile, I pushed as hard as possible and took the lead. The team worked really well together.”
