Edward Griffin of Cycology Cycles took victory in the Blackawton Road Race, in Devon on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Wiltshire rider finished the race leading marginally from a pack of six other chasers.

Andy Hitchens (Mid Devon CC) had opened up a small gap at the front but as the riders bunched up on the home straight for a sprint finish, it was Griffin who was first over the line.

The lumpy road made for difficult conditions despite the fine weather and the lumpy road surface saw a field of 71 riders cut down to just 30 finishers.

Edward Griffin said after the race: “It was a really tough race today, very fast, but an excellent course with quite a bumpy surface and a bit of everything.

“When I started off I wasn’t too sure about my chances as my legs weren’t feeling great but towards the end, I felt really strong and it all just gelled together.

“I think I was just at the right place at the right time to win it at the end.”
