Dulwich Paragon CC is promoting the 53rd consecutive running of the early season classic race for the Wally Gimber Trophy.

Held on the Tenterden circuit in Kent the race is one of the south east Spring Classics series with the Jock Wadley RR and Tour of the Dengie Marshes.

The field is very strong this year and includes five previous winners. Last year’s winner Steve Lampier (Team IG – Sigma Sport) returns with Simon Gaywood (2008) to try and defend the trophy. Two former winners now ride together in the Metaltek Scott team - Marcel Six (2010) is joined by multiple winner Tony Gibb who won in 2004, 2006 and 2007 and is looking to equal the records of four time winners Rob Hurd and Simon Cope. Andy Lyons, now with Twenty3c Orbea, won in 2000.

In addition to Metaltek Scott who also include Jason White, there are strong team entries from Felt-Colbornes, Team IG-Sigma, Team UK Youth and the Team Corley–Cervelo team who were especially active in last year’s race. The undulating course usually sees an early break and the larger teams will be trying to control the race although history suggests that lone riders can succeed against the odds.

The winner will take with them the prestigious trophy and prize money of £300. The race is again lead sponsored by David Rumm, Principal of Rumm Employment Law, a Tunbridge Wells based employment law practice. David is a cycling enthusiast who is keen to be associated with the race and to put something back into the sport. Additional sponsorship from energy drinks company High 5, current Dulwich club kit supplier Giordana and neutral race support from BC Bikes of Dulwich makes this year’s prize list the biggest ever.
