Location: Darley Moor, Derbyshire
Event: 11 March 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports
Attacking with around half a mile to go, Jamie Shirlaw (Herbalife-Leisure Lakes Bikes.com) held off the rest of a leading group of six riders to win the first round of the Darley Moor Circuit Series at Ashbourne.
“I wasn’t too confident about the sprint, so I jumped, got a gap and just put my head down,” said the 19-year-old winner, from Leeds, who crossed the line clear of James Notley (Planet X RT). “It’s my first win of the season and hopefully there’s a few more to come.”
The break went clear about half an hour into the 34-mile race. “I had three team-mates wth me and we tried to take it in turns to follow the early moves,” said Shirlaw.
“When the winning move went it was a good one to be in with Graham Briggs and Matt Gee not there, and we all worked well together until the wind began to take a toll in the last few laps.
“It’s the first time I’ve raced at Darley Moor, but flat circuits suit me and it worked out just right.”
