Steve Golla re-took the lead in the Imperial Winter Series with victory in round six on New Year’s Eve at the Hillingdon circuit in London.
The Series looks set to be a two-horse race between Golla and London Dynamo rival Jamie Pine, who between them have won all but one of the six rounds so far. With Pine only crossing the line fifth on Saturday, Golla now leads by 50 points.
He took the win from Felt Colbournes’ Andy Betts, while former series winner Jeroen Walters (VC St Raphael) was third. And in fact he wasn’t the only former series winner present, with Jason Streather also riding round six.
In other categories, Karla Boddy made it a double win for High Wycombe with victory in the women’s race from Squadra Donne’s Tamina Oliver, while Sarah Brook (Mule Bar) took third in a race which had the largest field so far at 25 riders.
The final round of the three-race women’s series, Kimberley English (Welwyn Wheelers) has won overall from Emily Bagnall (WyndyMilla) while Keira McVitty (Kings Cliffe Flyers) was third.
Nick Baker (Zappi’s CC) secured his second consecutive win in the third cat race, while Aylesbury CC’s Stephen Morrell finished second to continue an impressive run of form which saw him win the fourth cat race on Christmas Eve and step up to the third cats.
Finally, Stourbridge Velo’s Karl Moseley won the fourth category race from Sydenham Wheelers’ Ben Wimpory, while VC Elan rider Neil McCann took third.
