Martin O’Grady (Team Toachim) drew first blood in the South East Road Race League’s Winter Series, taking victory in round one of the event which was using the new Cyclopark facility in Gravesend, Kent.
The dry and sunny weather meant a good field of 80 riders, although a strong headwind on the finishing straight took its toll on a lot of riders and several didn’t finish.
Two races were run concurrently with O’Grady, the 50-year-old veteran from Westgate on Sea in Kent, winning the first/second category race from CC Hackney vet rival Keir Applerley, while the sprightly 36-year-old David Seager (Kingsnorth International) took third.
In the race for third and fourth category riders William Pratt (Dulwich Paragon) took the victory, the 25-year-old from Tulse Hill held off Sprockets UK rival Harry Godding for the win, while Godding’s team-mate Phil Webb took third place.
The new venue was well received by all riders.
