Team Corley Cycles' Richard Cartland secured victory in the Maldon and District Road Race at Steeple in Essex on Sunday, taking the win in a two-up sprint finish to the 64-mile National B race.
The 33-year-old from Worcestershire crossed the line just ahead of Epsom 24-year-old Adam Cotterell (WyndyMilla) after the pair had clipped off the front of a six-rider break towards the end of the race.
The break went on the second lap and, after swelling to nine as more riders bridged across from the bunch, the pace proved too high for some and three others dropped back.
The remains of the bunch eventually came in 1:47 behind the breakaway.
The supporting Regional B race was won by 37-year-old Edward Ashby (unattached) who, similar to the National B race, won in a two-up sprint finish from Patrick Schils (Velo Schils) at the end of their 43-mile race.
Ashby, from Chorleywood in Hertfordshire, was just a tyre's width ahead of Schils and required finish-line cameras to separate them. And just four seconds further off the pace was Andrew Brown (Velo Club Peloton) in third spot, edging Paul Radcliffe (Victoria Ciclos Uno) off the podium.
