Report: Royal London 360 Youth League Round 3
Event: 26th April 2011
Promoted by: Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man
Event HQ: National Sports Centre, Douglas, Isle of Man
Report: Dot Tilbury
Round three of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's children's youth league was staged at the National Sports Centre last Tuesday night in cold and overcast conditions. A total of 296 competitors took part in the evening's race programme, which has been expanded this year to accommodate the ever increasing numbers taking part in the racing bike events.
Peter Lloyd won the novices class for the third week in succession, crossing the line well clear of runner-up Jemma Quayle, who pipped Shannon Moore and Lisa Martin for the girls' honours. Joseph Corlett and T.J Teare rounded off the top six.
In the born 2006 & later age group Corey Peters picked up his maiden victory of the series. Ivan Sorby was a solid second and Drystan Sewell edged out Cian Jackson in the dash for third. Alfie Swales was a good fifth and Peter Cope led Samuel Devereau and Ryan Edwards home for sixth. Hollie Palmer was the leading girl in 11th place.
Harry Kneen went from the gun in the born 2005 event and was never caught. Round one winner Niall Colquitt got away from Mairi Harrison and Chloe Comaish to claim second and Albert Kessler outsprinted Nathan Cannell for fifth. Oliver Tobin, Harvey Coole, Aaron Christian and Jacob O'Boyle completed the top ten.
A breakaway group of four riders set the pace in the born 2004 category, with Zac Walker eventually taking the win from Joshua Dudley, Cameron Dudley and James Devereau. Port Soderick's Joshua Kelly outgunned Billy Kennedy and Cian Gell for fifth, with Mia Worthington holding off the main chasing group to grab eighth. Owen Chestnut pipped Jack Sowerby in the bunch sprint for ninth.
A determined Percy Hampton rode away from the field to record his second success in the born 2003 three lapper. Jake Wilson headed Jack Christian and Jonty Bregazzi in the battle for second, while Matthew Black maintained a safe fifth ahead of the pursuing trio of Thomas Skillicorn, Jamie Gelling and Tyler Hannay. The first girl over the line was Darcy Cain in tenth spot.
Aaron Lund had to fend off a strong challenge from Will Corkill before securing maximum points in the born 2002 class. James Harrison filled the remaining place on the podium and Corrin Leeming snatched fourth from Liam Crook. Top girl Shellan Leeming got the better of Frederick Nabor for sixth and Nathanael Tyson was too strong for Joshua Mills and Sam Corlett in the dash for eighth.
Five riders contested the final sprint in the born 2001 race, with Tosh Teare getting the verdict from Juan Kneen, Max Walker, Adam Scarffe and Conor Gelling. Sixth place went to Tyler Cain and Emma Draper was the first girl in seventh spot. In the born 2000 & earlier grouping frontrunners Adam Kelly, Joseph Corkish, Abby Quirk and Emma Nicholson filled the top four positions. Jessica Lloyd was a lonely fifth and Ben Cunningham took the gallop for sixth.
A last lap attack gave Charlie Gibson a comfortable victory in the under 10 racing bikes. Max Walker and Adam Scarffe spearheaded the bunch sprint for second and third, with Emily Bridson doing well to take the girls' award in 12th place. William Draper also had a convincing win in the under 12's, taking the chequered flag with a clear advantage over Conor Davies, Callum Clague and Eleanor Davies.
Making his first appearance of the season, Jake Kelly duly won the under 16's race from the an aggressive Josh Knights, who made several early attempts to get away. Jamie Dudley and Joseph Haddock worked hard to stay with the leaders and Anna Christian returned from holiday to take the girls' spoils in ninth spot.
