Venue: National Sports Centre, Douglas, Isle of Man
Report: Dot Tilbury
Conditions were perfect for the 264 riders who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 2 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league.
The novices race got the proceedings underway with Peter Lloyd taking the honours from Ealish Cook and Chester Bell, who edged out Jemma Quayle for the final place on the podium. Lisa Martin and Freddie Griffin completed the top six.
In the born 2006 & later age group Jack Keenan held off Corey Peters in the final dash for the line. Ivan Sorby was a safe third and Cian Jackson outsprinted Alfie Swales, Drystan Sewell and Ryan Edwards for fourth. Sophie Smith was the leading girl in 18th spot.
Harry Kneen led breakaway partners Niall Colquitt, Nathan Cannell and Mairi Harrison home to grab maximum points in the born 2005 class, with Albert Kessler taking the bunch gallop for fifth. In the following event for those born in 2004 Zac Walker was the clear winner ahead of chasers Joshua Dudley, Ralf Holden, James Devereau and Cameron Dudley. Impressive newcomer Nancy Wheeler grabbed the girls' prize in ninth place.
Percy Hampton broke away on lap one of the born 2003 race and stayed clear of chasers Matthew Black, Jake Wilson, Jonty Bregazzi and Jack Christian to claim a fine solo victory. Thomas Skillicorn pipped Tyler Hannay for sixth and Jamie Gelling beat Ryan Quirk, Darcy Cain and Jack Collister in the battle for eighth.
In the born 2002 category Aaron Lund got the better of Will Corkill and James Harrison in the dash for the chequered flag. Corrin Leeming trailed in for fourth and Liam Crook was a lonely fifth ahead of leading girls Blae Cain and Shellan Leeming in sixth and seventh respectively.
Tosh Teare scored his first ever success in the born 2001 class, outgunning fellow front runners Adam Scarffe, Juan Kneen and Tyler Cain in a very close finish. Conor Gelling and Cullen Gell rounded off the top six, with Emma Draper the best girl in seventh position. Emma's brother Matthew came through the field to claim the win in the born 2000 & earlier grouping. Tara Ferguson ousted Sam Mills for second and Ben Cunningham beat Abby Quirk for fourth.
In the younger racing bike classes an aggressive Charlie Gibson won the under 10's ahead of Adam Scarffe and Juan Kneen, while Conor Davies broke away in the early stages of the U/12's six lapper to win comfortably from Sam Batey and Thomas Bostock. The girls' honours went to Chloe Crellin (11th in the U/10's) and Eleanor Davies (7th in the U/12's).
Joshua Knights produced one of the rides of the night to win the under 16's event. Josh attacked on the sixth of twenty laps and powered away to a score an emphatic victory, almost lapping the field in the process. Round one winner Jamie Dudley headed Leon Mazzone and Nick Corlett in the sprint for second, with Sophie Black the top girl in ninth place.
