Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's Youth League
Story posted August 16, 2010 | by Dot Tilbury
Round 17 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league was staged at the NSC last Tuesday night in conditions that were as good as they have been all summer. A total of 227 competitors signed-on for the evening's racing. In the novices class Sophia Littlewood powered away from the field to notch up her seventh success of the series. Joel Garrett was a solid second and Emma Stratford beat Amy Quayle in the sprint for third. Albert Kessler came in on his own to grab fifth, with Mia Littlewood edging out Ealish Cook and Ryan Edwards for sixth. Jacob Kenny and newcomer Paul Sullivan completed the top ten.
Surby's Harry Kneen continues to dominate the born 2005 & later age group, crossing the line several bike lengths ahead of Joseph Humphrey, who pipped Nathan Cannell and Mairi Harrison for second place. Corey Peters overhauled Chloe Comaish for fifth and Robert Docherty ousted Sophie Bolton in the bunch gallop for seventh.
Zac Walker had to hold off strong challenges from Joshua Dudley and Ralf Holden before securing the honours in the born 2004 category.. Cameron Dudley, James Devereau, Ben Boyle and Nathan Slack lost contact with the leading trio in the closing stages, trailing in separately for fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh places respectively. Oliver Harrison outgunned Mia Worthington and Cameron Hawes in the dash for eighth.
In the born 2003 event Percy Hampton rode Jake Wilson and Jonty Bregazzi off his wheel to take maximum points for the tenth time, with fellow frontrunners Jack Christian and Matthew Black just behind in fourth and fifth places. Jack Collister got away from Ryan Quirk and Darcy Cain to grab sixth, while Thomas Skillicorn, who had been stuck in no-mans-land for the entire race, stayed clear of the chasing bunch to claim ninth. Matthew Cooil rounded off the top ten.
After breaking away from a leading group of eight riders, Will Corkill and Aaron Lund went head to head in the born 2002 class, with Corkill just getting the verdict in the sprint for the line. James Harrison also had to work hard to fend off Nicholas Kissack in a close battle for third and Blae Cain did well to hold onto fifth spot ahead of the fast finishing trio of Frederick Nabor, Joshua Mills and Liam Crook.
Tyler Cain set the pace in the born 2001 race, but had to give best to winner Max Walker and runner-up Juan Kneen in the dash for the chequered flag. Adam Scarffe was fourth ahead of Tosh Teare and Conor Gelling, with Chloe Crellin the best girl in seventh spot.
Ben Christian took the born 200 honours from the hard working Sam Batey and Adam Kelly, while Phoebe Ferguson caught and passed Breeshey Cain on the finish straight to record her maiden win in the born 1999-97 grouping. Breesha Quirk led Sam Mills home to make it a 1-2-3 for the girls.
In the two younger racing bike classes William Draper scored a runaway win in the under 10's and a delighted Michael Moss outsprinted Dan Watterson and Conor Davies to pick up his first ever victory in the under 12's.
Jake Kelly, Nick Corlett, Alex Haddock and Jamie Dudley lapped the field in the under 16's race, with the in-form Kelly coming out on top in the final sprint. Leon Mazzone was the best of the rest in fifth spot and Anna Christian was the first girl home in eighth place.
