Report: Women's Team Series
Story posted July 26, 2010; by Jon Miles
Two from Two for Alli
Alli Holland (Max Gear RT) won her second race in succession at the Women's Team Race Series event held at Naseby organised by the Welland Valley CC with generous sponsorship by Duncan Murray's Wines. Alli beat Welsh Commonwealth Games rider Kara Chesworth (Rapha Condor) in a very tight spring after 80 kilometres of generally fast racing. Kara was celebrating her worthy selection for the Welsh Commonwealth Games team.
On what is always a course made for good cycle racing and with a slight wind although no rain, the field set off at a brisk pace, initially being led by Motorpoint/Marshals Pasta still smarting over letting valuable Team Series points slip away from them at Upavon the week previously. The two hills on the course saw a gradual wittering down from the rear of the bunch until at 15 miles covered, an attack went but this was soon caught.
It was about here that Alli unshipped her chain but after an strong chase, she got back onto the bunch with a silent whoop of joy. After 22 miles covered there were more attacks but they were brought back. After 30 miles and Max Gear RT attacked but again this was not allowed to gain any distance. A few miles later and Kirsty Bishop (PSUK) crashed but actually seemed to bounce back up as if made of rubber, was back on her bike in seconds and chasing well to get back to the bunch again.
Starting the final lap, Motorpoint attacked but it was soon apparent that it would be a bunch sprint and onto the final finishing hill, the peloton was just a long line out as riders tried to hold their place on the tough hill with Alli Holland and Kara Chesworth proving to be the strongest as they took the major placings with Sarah Byrne (Team Wannabies) in 3rd place.
