A total of 314 youngsters braved the cold and windy conditions at the NSC last Tuesday night to compete in round five of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league. Edward Teare maintained his unbeaten record in the novices class, clocking up his fifth success ahead of Sam Cunningham and Sophia Littlewood, who was the best girl in third place. Harvey Coole edged out Mia Littlewood and Ryan Blair for fourth, with Luca Moretta and Emma Stratford leading the main chasing group home for seventh and eighth.
In the born 2005 & later grouping Harry Kneen took maximum points for the third week running. Round two winner Niall Colquitt outsprinted Mairi Harrison for the runners-up spot and Zachary Dowson got the better of Liam Smith and Aaron Christian for fourth. Frank Kinnish, Luke Saunders, Chloe Dillon and Thomas Ross completed the top ten.
Dillon Dowson rode away from Zac Walker to record his second victory in the born 2004 event. Ralf Holden held off the fast finishing Joshua Dudley for third and Nathan Slack stayed clear of chasers Cian Gell, Cameron Dudley and Mia Worthington to grab fifth. Percy Hampton had to fend off a strong challenge from Jake Wilson on the way to winning the born 2003 race for a third time. Jonty Bregazzi snatched third from Matthew Black and Jack Christian escaped from the pursuing pack to claim fifth. Darcy Cain was the first girl in eighth spot and further down the field newcomer Matthew O'Neill did well to finish 15th.
Sticking to a very successful formula, British Cycling series leader Charlie Gibson went from the gun in the born 2002 category and time trialed to a another fine solo win. James Harrison came out on top in a very close battle with Will Corkill for second and Aaron Lund beat Nicholas Kissack to the line for fourth. Blae Cain took the girls' prize in sixth place and Wilfy Kermode led Jack Whitelegg and Sam Corlett home for seventh.
Juan Kneen caught and passed an under the weather Max Walker on the final lap to record his maiden victory in the born 2001 class. Tyler Cain ousted Adam Scarffe for third and Matthew Flint had the edge over Emma Draper and Conor Gelling in the dash for fifth. Ben Christian and Sam Batey fought over the honours in the born 2000 age group, with Ben eventually gaining the upper hand in the final sprint. Lucas Mudie and Adam Kelly, who had both been in the initial break, were third and fourth ahead of Sean Maxwell and Adam Long.
Born 1999-97 winner Matthew Draper rode main rival Breeshey Cain off his wheel. Rory McCann pipped Phoebe Ferguson for third and Breesha Quirk beat sister Abby for fifth. In the under 12's racing bikes Owen Dudley outsprinted his seven breakaway partners to fill the top slot on the podium. The ever improving Michael Moss was second followed by Matthew Draper, William Draper, Conor Davies, Dan Watterson, Marcus Simpson and Callum Clague. In the under 16's Jake Kelly outgunned Alex Haddock for the honours, after the pair had slipped away from the main bunch at two thirds distance. Nicholas Corlett was a good third and the hard working Jamie Dudley the leading U/14 rider in fourth place.
