British Cycling can today announce the 10 young riders selected to represent Great Britain at the 2024 UCI Junior Track World Championships, in Luoyang, China from Wednesday 21 August to Sunday 25 August.

The full squad will be making their world championships debuts after a fantastic year which has seen seven European and two elite national titles won between them.

The men’s endurance squad will see the quartet of Sam Fisher, Henry Hobbs, William Salter and Fin Tarling contest the rainbow jersey in their first world championship experience. The squad, who recently won a bronze medal in the team pursuit at the 2024 UEC Track Juniors/U23 European Championships, will be aiming for a world championship medal in the same event.

Individually, current European omnium champion Salter will contest the individual pursuit and Madison alongside Tarling, who will also compete in the points race. Fisher will be racing in the omnium and elimination races, while Hobbs will take on the individual pursuit and 1km time-trial.

The women’s endurance squad will see European championship team pursuit silver medallists Erin Boothman, Cat Ferguson, Carys Lloyd and Imogen Wolff aim to take a rainbow jersey in the event at the first time of asking.

Ferguson and Lloyd will be contesting the Madison title, after taking the European title earlier this summer, while Ferguson also competes in the omnium. Lloyd will be competing in the individual pursuit alongside Boothman, and Wolff will be hunting for the points race title.

The solo representative in the women’s sprint squad will be up-and-comer Georgette Rand, who has had a fantastic season so far. The young rider won three European titles in the sprint, keirin and 500m time-trial events earlier this year, and will be looking to contest the women’s rainbow jersey in all three events at her first world championships.

Also competing in the sprint events will be junior European keirin champion Oliver Pettifer, who will be looking to take a world championships jersey in the event, as well as contesting the sprint and 1km time-trial.

Jon Barlett, Performance Pathway Manager for the Great Britain Cycling Team, said:

“The squad heading to China for the upcoming world championships, while all debutants, are incredibly experienced and decorated for their young years. They are a testament to the British Cycling talent pathway and the calibre of coaching staff that have developed them over recent months, while they continue formal education.

“Coming straight off the back of watching the podium squad bring home eight track medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, these riders are more motivated than ever to show what they can do at the start of their journey to an Olympic podium and I, for one, can’t wait to see what they deliver.”
