The 2012 South West Scotland Cycling Project Race Series kick off this Saturday at Mabie Forest, Dumfries with a cross-country mountain bike race.

This will be the second year for the series which is designed to help develop cycle racing in South West Scotland.

This year the series will also include three mini downhill mountain bike events for youths to go along with the four MTB cross country events, four closed circuit road events, four grass track events, five open road races, three time trials and a hill climb.

The series is aimed at all youth and junior riders, all women categories and 3rd & 4th category seniors and vets. This year though sees the closed circuit races and one of the open road races open to 2nd category riders due to the improvement and development of local riders.

The series works on a points basis over the whole season with riders building up points as they go, culminating in trophies and prize money awarded at the end of the season.

The points series is only open to riders from South West clubs (Ayrshire & Dumfries CA clubs), but events are open to all. Riders from non South West Clubs who want to be part of the points series can do so by paying an annual fee or by getting their club to provide volunteers to cover one of the events.
