There is now just over six weeks to go to the West Drayton Mountain Bike Clubs Autumn events, both taking place at Black Park Country Park, near to Slough and run with the kind permission of Bucks County Council.
The first takes place on Saturday 20 October and is the Exposure Lights, Night of the Knobbly Tread, a short night time cross country race featuring both a fun event for those yet to sample the intense buzz of racing in the dark and an open event for those experienced night time racers. With the races being close to Halloween, in addition to the prizes for the first across the line and age related prizes there will be prizes for the riders sporting the best fancy dress.
Generous sponsorship from Exposure Lights, Party Lights, Beyond Mountain Bikes and The King William Guest House should see the winners well rewarded for their efforts.
Race distances are nine miles for the fun race and 15 miles for the open event, the events are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. and will be run around a newly designed circuit, which will feature fast twisting single track with wide forest tracks and some technical sections.
Richard Sawkins managing director of Party Lights states "we enjoyed the success of last year’s inaugural event and are glad to be supporting the event again this year".
John Cookson from Exposure Lights states "We got a lot of positive feedback from last year’s event and this year wanted to be the headline sponsor and are pleased to be supporting this event which is one of the few short distance night time races that are run in this country. We hope to see more new riders sampling the thrill of racing in the dark as well as seeing some intense close run battles in the open event around a circuit that always features fast close racing." As always the team from
Exposure will be on hand with their latest wares and to give advice on lighting systems. It is hoped to create a party atmosphere at the event with free hot dogs and drinks being handed out to all competitors at the prize giving.
The following day on the 23rd it's the Black Park Duathlon and a mixture of true duathletes, runners and mountain bikers are expected to do battle for supremacy and take the podium places and prizes supplied by race and West Drayton club sponsors Beyond Mountain Bikes, Go Ape, The Bucks Off-
Last year’s winner Maddie Horton is going to be the female rider to beat as she returns to defend her titles won in 2012. Race format will be a three mile run followed by a 12 mile mountain bike ride and then a further three mile run to finish. The mountain bike race will be around a very similar course to the previous day’s night time race with the run around a separate 1.5 mile off road circuit.
Pre-entry for both events is strongly recommended as race fields will be limited in both events and is available via the event website www.blackparkraces.co.uk.
