The first round of the 2011 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup saw some outstanding performances from British riders in both the Downhill and 4-Cross disciplines.
Top ride of the weekend came from world champion Tracy Moseley, who showed that her ambition and skill are as keen as they have ever been in winning the women's Downhill race by just over a quarter of a second from fellow Brit, Fionn Griffiths, who produced her best ride for several years in claiming second. Manon Carpenter underlined her rise up the pecking order in the last couple of years by finishing 8th.
Griffiths also made her mark in the 4-Cross, finishing second in that discipline too, just behind Anneke Beerten, with Katy Curd taking sixth place.
In the men's Downhill, the USA topped the podium thanks to Aaron Gwin's surprise win, just ahead of home favourite Greg Minnar. Gee Atherton was the leading British rider in third place, with Steve Peat in fifth, Marc Beaumont in 7th and Josh Bryceland in tenth also well in contention.
In the Men's 4-Cross, Jared Graves of Australia was the winner, with Scott Beaumont in tenth place the best of the British riders, just ahead of Scott Roberts in 12th.
