European Downhill Champs: Sam Flockhart takes junior win
Posted August 10 2010
Before he heads to the skatepark for some sneaky riding, we get the latest from Britain's second consecutive Junior European Downhill Champion - this time it's Sam Flockhart.
In 2009 it was Bernard Kerr, in 2010 it's Sam Flockhart. Both Junior European Downhill Champions, both riders underlining Britian's quality when it comes to downhilling.
Already selected for the World Championships next month, Flockhart travelled to Norway with the hope of a podium finish and on arrival to the track knew it was a distinct possibility. "Fast, with big compressions" is how Sam describes it and after finishing third in qualifying the pressure was on for finals.
Always confident of a good result, Sam's final run went to plan with a great top section and only small mistakes in the lower rock garden; but with two riders still on the hill there was a short and tense wait in the hotseat.
As the final man down passed the first split three seconds down however, there was time to celebrate the European title before a short stint in the UK, preceeding the World Cup Finals in Windham and the World Championships.
