Newnham 60 - A long day in the dirt!

Bookmark and Share

With 6 years under it's belt the classic Newnham 60 Enduro just keeps going from strength to strength offering a fantastic challenge across trails usually inaccessible at any other time of year, across stunning scenery. To cap it all a real Devon cream tea awaited all that finished and you can see why riders flocked from near and far to take part in this event.

In fact a full house of 500 riders pitched up to take advantage of some end of season sunshine, with most opting to take on the 60km while some decided that 30 km would just be enough. The course took riders along parts of the XC course used the previous day and riders streamed up Shooters climb ready to tackle the fun descent of Cottage return, before popping out into the bright sunshine across the field to start yet another climb that would eventually take them through CannWoods.

Those that decided that 30 km would be an adequate distance then headed back to base with a final water splash making a grand entrance to the finishing line where they picked up a souvenir t-shirt and headed hungrily over to get stuck into their cream tea. For those continuing on this epic ride, it was on to the moors, a lunar landscape of boulders, dry dusty trails and superb scenery as they snaked their way back to Newnham, taking time to stock up at the feed stations along the way, before descending into the valley where they encountered one or two cooling water crossings before they finally hit the ‘big' splash at the end. Everyone finished with huge smiles and were keen to do it all again...next year!

Newnham 60 will once again be part of the festival of cycling fun that is scheduled to take place again next year, same time same place, with even more cream teas on offer! See you there.
