Event Overview

NEW FOR 2024 - Scottish Mixed Relay Cyclocross - Saturday 30th November   U18 & ADULTS - (see below for U10-U16)   Teams of 3   60 minutes of racing   2 laps each, then a lap each until the flag.       You can either enter as a fully fledged team of 3, or you can enter individually into the teams ballot of riders and randomly be allocated a team.       The format is simple you and two others relay race round the Irvine course, a minimum of two laps each, for 60 minutes of racing.   To allow for fast, flowing, and hopefully closely fought racing the mixed team really course will be slightly modified from the Scottish Championship course the following day. It will however give you a great opportunity to practice key features of the course under race conditions prior to the championships. . . without getting too exhausted.   There will be a minimum of six laps of racing. . . but if these 6 laps are completed before the Commissaries ring the final lap bell after 55 minutes, then each rider takes it in turn to complete additional laps until the chequered flag.     Each team must consist of the following:   Three members:   1 team member must ordinarily race in the female category   1 team member must ordinarily race in the V50 or older category   If 1 team member is a female V50 or older, then both the other 2 team members can be of any other category.     No non Ballot team may consist of two Open category riders who are each in the top 10 places of the SCX Open Series prior to Irvine.   If one of the compulsory categories does not have enough riders wishing to enter into the ballot then team members will be allocated at the discretion of the organisers.     --------- UNDER 16 RACE   Four riders per team.   Each team must feature   At least one U10 rider   At least one U12 rider   At least one U14 rider   At least one U16 rider   Two Males. Two Females.   You can enter as a full team or enter individually into a ballot from which teams will be allocated.   If one of the compulsory categories does not have enough riders wishing to enter into the ballot, team members and team composition will be allocated at the discretion of the organisers.   The course will be based on approx 50% lap length of the main Irvine Championship course, but with alterations of the more technical sections to facilitate the skill level & enjoyment of all riders.   U10 riders will have shorter, less technical lap to complete for their 2 laps.   For U12 - U16 there will be a roller coaster. There will be a run up. There will be sand. Less technical, but longer, B Lines will be available on some sections.   Each rider must complete two laps before changeover to the next rider U10 riders will start first, then U12, then U14, the U16.   Once each team member has completed their initial 2 laps, in the same order they will complete additional single laps in rotation until the bell lap is rung after 30 minutes of racing.

Info for Riders

The race will begin as a mass start. Handovers will take place in a designated area near the lap line.   The order team members start is completely at team discretion. But once each member has completed their first 2 laps the rotation may have a different order… so long as no team member misses a rotation.   At the end of a rotation a rider must relay to a team member. For example Rider C cannot do their initial 2 laps then immediately do their next single lap   Acceptable - Rider Ax2, Rider Bx2, Rider Cx2, Rider Ax1, Rider Bx1, Rider Cx1, Rider Ax1, etc… Acceptable - Rider Ax2, Rider Bx2, Rider Cx2, Rider Bx1, Rider Cx1, Rider Ax1, Rider Cx1, etc NOT Acceptable - Rider Ax2, Rider Bx2, Rider Cx2, Rider Cx1, Rider Bx1, Rider Ax1…   If upon completion of the first rotation of 2 laps each a rider is injured or suffers a mechanical which prevents them from riding additional rotations then the remaining 2 riders can rotate without them. But 1 rider alone cannot continue.     Acceptable - Rider Ax2, Rider Bx2, Rider Cx2, Rider Ax1, Rider Cx1, Rider Ax1, Rider Cx1, Rider Ax1, etc… ---------
