This year's Welsh Cross Country Mountain Bike Series Round 3 will take place on Sunday, 19th May at One Giant Leap hosted by the Fibrax Fenwick's Wrexham Cycling Club supported by Welsh Cycling. 

Cross Country Mountain Bike racing is off-road cycle racing which takes place in a variety of off-road venues. Mountain Bike racing is often held in parkland, woodland, and forestry sites. These venues are designed to include climbs, decent and other technical features.

Anyone can enter no matter what their age, ability or bike. Provided they have a helmet, and their bike is in good working order. There is a category for everyone and separate races for younger riders. Round Podium/prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each category.

Events are organised by local cycling clubs with the support of Welsh Cycling. Taking place across Wales at weekends throughout March to July. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and included courses that are well-planned and safe.

2024 Welsh Mountain Bike Series Rules (XCO)

Competitors must finish 3 out of 5 rounds to count towards the overall series. A start in the final round is compulsory.

The Welsh Mountain Bike Series Overall (XCO) will cater for Under 10’s category and above. Events will include races for Under 6’s, Under 8’s and the Fun categories. However, these are standalone races and do not form part of the series. This is to encourage local participation and manage competitiveness at such a young age.

Series events will follow British Cycling regulations.

Participants are encouraged to enter in advance and entries close on the Wednesday prior to the advertised event date. There will be entry on the day at a £5 surcharge so please bring the correct amount in CASH

Gridding for round one will be at the official’s discretion but will consider athlete rankings and previous performances.

Gridding for round two onwards will be based on overall series performances, followed by athlete rankings and previous performances, at the officials discretion.

The series will be scored according to the following:

-         100 points for a win;

-         98 points for second;

-         96 points for third;

-         And so on, descending by two points to the last placed finisher.

In the event of a tie in the final series scores, the winner will be determined by the highest number of first place finishes, then the highest number of second place finishes, and so on.

Timing chips must be returned along with your number board after the race. Failure to do so will incur a fee of £60 to replace the timing chip.

Individual event prizes and overall series winner prizes will be awarded for U10 and above categories.

Parents of U6/8’s are NOT allowed to follow their children racing on the course and must remain at the side of the course or at the finish area.

This year there will be online entry and entry on the day at a £5 surcharge. The closing date for entries will be 23:55 on Wednesday, 15th May.
