Event Summary

Event Overview

The Tour of Retford '24 is a 115km ride or 56km (short route) around the scenic countryside of North Nottinghamshire, run annually on the same day as the Amstel Gold race, and affectionately name “Amstel Standing” by past supporters. This year there are 2 distances 115km (75mile) and 56km (35mile). Oh and not forgetting a prize for, the furthest travelled rider and the best fancy dress!

Ride registration is in Retford Market Square from 8am on the day of the ride. All pre-registered riders will receive a printed route map at registration. Car parking in Retford is abundant and the council run car parks are free of charge on sundays. There are five main checkpoints on the route, where volunteers from The Retford Lions Club will feed and water you.

The route is designed to appeal to cyclists of all abilities, from experienced club cyclists to total novices. It is a scenic and social ride. The event is open to any cyclist. Riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult cycling with them. Participants do so entirely at their own risk and the organisers accept no responsibility whatsoever. Everyone follows a set route at their own pace within time limits of 3.5hrs and 7hrs max. IT IS NOT A RACE please do not treat it as such. Have a brisk ride by all means but don’t act like you’re in the Pro Tour and make a nuisance to other road users.

Route Finding

On the Tour of Retford we encourage self-reliance. You are setting yourself a challenge, so its up to you to ensure you are fit enough and that your bike is in good condition. There are five checkpoints en-route where you can top up on water and moral support. Navigation is your responsibility, study the map to supplement the written description and carry out a little home- work beforehand and you’ll not get lost. The route has not changed since last year.

GPX map details (on STRAVA) https://www.strava.com/routes/4437485?hl=en-GB and a cue sheet PDF are available for download (or collect on the day) The route may be sign posted but don’t trust signs, they can get moved or changed. Please enjoy the North Nottinghamshire Countryside and have a nice bike ride :-)
