Beastway mountainbike race series celebrates its 30th season.

London’s famous weekly mountainbike races are back for 2023, with racing for everyone, every Wednesday evening in May and June. Races are at the purpose-built Redbridge Cycling Circuit, located on Hog Hill in Hainault with wide views to The City and Docklands. The race format sees all categories taking part in a 60-minute cross-country style race on a different and challenging course each week to make a lap of 3 or 4km from our 10km of trail options. Main race start is at 19:30

Before the evening's main race our u12 riders always get a shorter course which is suitable for a wide range of ages from 7 and up, but which doesn't patronise the fastest. Starts at 18:45

Youth and juveniles normally race in with the seniors, starting around 15-20 minutes later so they get to learn race craft with the best, and it's a slightly longer race than the nationals so fitness builds quickly.

Women are particularly welcome at all our races and we will ask about your gridding preference. (We shouldn't need to say this...)

With nine rounds in the series, it's your best EIGHT scores which count. Our unique and highly prized trophies are always sought after, though none more than those that were made by Turner prize-winning artist Grayson Perry one year.

Our race entry fees are the best value, friendly and competitive races around. Pre-entry has always saved you money, but now it's the only way to enter too. There is NO ENTRY ON THE DAY.

The pavilion will be open for toilets and rider check-in, plus lockers (£1 coin returned after use). Food and drink from the cafe there too.

We are always on the lookout for helpers to join in with running our races. Please let us know if you have a friend or supporter that otherwise might spectate and we can hand them something to do. beastway'at'btinternet.com is the contact to sort this out, which we must do in advance. If you want to marshal any week instead of racing, we will refund your advance entry fee and give you series points averaged to what you scored at other rounds.

In the u12 races, we expect the parents will want to help.

Info for Riders

Our laps are 3 or 4km in length and are meant to be challenging and not risky. The courses can all be ridden on bikes with no suspension - cyclocrossers welcome - with some descending and some climbing. The site has copses and mature woodland, open grasslands and scrub in an idyllic country setting with the most fantastic views of London. We can use sections of the road circuit for our laps and some really top-notch off-road sections that we developed over the last 12 years. Wherever you are in the race, there's always someone to race against or you can just enjoy the course.

We have an u10 and u12 race before the main start. This should be finished by 19.10, which means you have time to get a practice lap before the main start at 19:30. Youth and juveniles will be called to their start at around 19:50. Racing ends around 20:30.

We will leave online pre-entry open until Tuesday.

Many riders form groups to ride from Central London so see about hooking up with others on the FB. You can also pop your bike in a bag and come straight to Fairlop or Hainault tube.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR is the ELIZABETH LINE which runs to Goodmayes, only 20mins ride from Hog Hill.  -You can be racing at Hog Hill in less than an hour from Paddington!!
