The Camel Cross is the a fun morning of races for all of the family incorporating the first Cornish Summer CX Championships.

Cyclocross (CX) is a great way to have fun and try out bike racing. Competitors complete laps of a course that is a mix of grass and gravel tracks, everything is rollable, no jumps or drops - but there maybe times where it is easier to get off and push or carry your bike.

We believe cycling is for everybody with CX providing a fun way to race against your friends, we are trying something that we don't think has been done before and added in a Recumbent CX Race. Starting art 11:30, this will be the same course with obstacles requiring dismount being removed. This race will also be part of The Cornish Summer CX Championship!

You can bring almost any bike, gravel and hard-tail MTB are probably better, but it doesn't matter.  If you don't have a bike, The Cornwall Bicycle Project have some you can borrow. For recumbent bikes, there are all sorts of variables that come into play, powered/not-powered, gear setup, wheels, etc, etc.  The aim of the recumbent race, like all the other races, is to provide an opportunity to have a fun off-road race. So, bring any recumbent bike that can cope with riding on grass and gravel and join in with the fun. 

The races will start at 9am with the final race - The Cornish Summer CX Championship - at 12:00.

Info for Riders

Any bike can be used, gravel and hard trail MTBs are probably the best. The bike must have working brakes with handlebar ends plugged.

Wheal Velocity will be running cyclocross coaching for young riders free of charge to everybody who enters this event.

Sessions will run from 18:30 till 20:00 on Tuesday evenings from next Tuesday 26/07/2022 at a variety of different venues chosen to replicate certain challenges riders will face throughout the upcoming season. The first session will be at Wheal Jane 26/07/2022 and will cover the crucial skills of race starts, dismounts and re-mounts. Subsequent sessions will each focus on an important skill to help our young riders build their complete skill set in time for racing to begin.
