This event is a trial of the new format we are considering. There will be 4 male ability categories and 3 female. Regardless of your British Cycling category you will be in one of these 4.

Races will be over a fixed time as opposed to laps. 

The overall objective is to match riders with their racing peers regardless of age and to provide closer racing.

Info for Riders

We appreciate riders may have some difficulty in deciding which category they should enter so we have analysed the last 9 MSG events and allocated a category to each rider for every one of those 9 they entered. This information can be found on our website at www.mudsweatgears.co.uk. It is for guidance only and for these trial events you can ignore that guidance and enter whatever category you like.

As a rough rule of thumb, if you are a male and normally in the top 25% of your category or a female and in the top 33 1/3% enter category 1, if you are in the next 25% (Male) or 33 1/3% (Female) enter category 2 and so on.

The main exceptions to that are younger riders where there are time constraints on how long they can race for. So Juvenille riders should enter no higher catgory than 4 (male) or 3 (female) and Youth riders should enter no higher than 3 (male) or 2 (female).

There is the possibility to apply to ride up by one category where young riders are regularly outperforming those categories. This is reflected in the anaylsis information.
