Welsh Cycling Star Track 7 Week sessions

These sessions are by invite only. If you feel you meet the criteria please email Jodie.Lloyd@welshcycling.co.uk who will decide your suitability. 

The criteria for these sessions is listed below and inline with Project 2018 if you think you meet this standard we’d certainly like to hear from you:

  • Aged between 10-14 Years, Priority will be given to U12 riders.
  • Experience of riding fixed wheel with attendance at least 1 indoor track session.
  • British Cycling member
  • Eligible for Welsh team selection ( Resident in Wales for at least 5 years, Born in Wales or Parent born in Wales)

Riders must be able and feel confident with the following prerequisites.

 • Able to start and stop from the outside railCriteria to access Star Track Session:

• Able to look over shoulders to safely move from the front to the back of a string of riders on the black line

• Can maintain speed to follow blue line through the bends

• Able to look over shoulders to manoeuvre through a cone slalom in a straight • Can get in and out of saddle in the bends

• Ride one-handed for a lap

• Able to ride safely in pairs as part of a bunch, changing from the front to the back of the group

• Able to ride side by side in groups of four

• Able to ride in a pace line one wheel apart

• Able to start and stop on rollers

• Able to three second track stand

Riders who are expecting  to compete in the following events-  Maindy Mini League / Icebreakers / Newport Track League/ Regional Omnium's

Riders will also need your own bike for the session using the correct gearing for your age. You can arrange a 6 month loan for a Welsh Cycling hire bike- Contact the organiser for more information on this. Hire bikes from Newport Council are not permitted on the session.

Entries will be approved following consultation and  from the lead coaches.

The cost of entry covers the 7 weekly sessions.Please note credits for any sessions missed due to ilness can only be used during the sessions taking place in school holidays.

Were also keen to use the session as a way of providing opportunity’s to develop the skills of coaches, so if you’re a coach interested in attending the session to learn more and be mentored please contact Dan Coast directly.
