Welsh Cycling Project 2018 Future Track (Under 12's)

Event Summary

Event Overview

With a number of riders progressing from the group into Track League & SQT Sessions we now have a number of spaces available for young riders wishing to take part in this skills and endurance based session.

The criteria for these sessions is listed below and if you think you meet this standard we’d certainly like to hear from you:

  • Aged between 10-14 Years
  • Experience of riding fixed wheel with attendance at least 1 indoor track session.
  • British Cycling member
  • Eligible for Welsh team selection ( Resident in Wales for at least 5 years, Born in Wales or Parent born in Wales)

Riders must be able and feel confident with the following prerequisites.

Requisite Skills

Starting & Stopping from the inside rail

Looking over shoulder to safely join & exit the track

Maintain Speed to hold (Stay above) Datum line through the bends.

Looking over shoulders to manoeuvre through a slalom course of cones in a straight (3 gates for Newport, up to the blue line)

In and out of the saddle in the straights

Changing Hand positions to & from tops/ drops

Ride in pairs with font rider moving up the track to allow fellow rider to pass underneath in the straights,

Ride 2 abreast for a lap.

Ride in a line maintaining a bike length from the rider in front

Physical To be able to ride 10 minutes at race pace

Riders who are expecting  to compete in the following events-  Maindy Mini League / Icebreakers / Newport Track League/ Regional Omnium's

Riders will also need your own bike for the session or arrange 6 month loan for a Welsh Cycling hire bike- Contact the organiser for more information on this. Hire bikes from Newport Council are not permitted on the session.

Entries will be approved following consultation and  from the lead coaches which will require riders parents to complete a short questionnaire on the riders suitability for the session available upon entry.

The cost of entry covers the 4 weekly sessions (4th, 11th. 18, 25th March)

Were also keen to use the session as a way of providing opportunity’s to develop the skills of coaches, so if you’re a coach interested in attending the session to learn more and be mentored please contact Dan Coast directly.
