Great Britain’s Helen Wyman finished second in the final round of the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup in Nommay, France, on Sunday. Fellow British rider Nikki Harris finished fifth, with the race win going to Dutch rider Marianne Vos.

Wyman led the race in the early stages after Vos fell on the first ascent of the stairs. However the Dutch rider soon recovered and gained the lead. Eight-time British national champion Wyman went on to make second place her own, following the early retirement of Katie Compton, Wyman fending off Italian rider Eva Lechner and coming home one minute and 32 seconds behind Vos.

US rider Compton was forced to retire due to asthma but had already clinched the world cup title in the preceding round.

Nikki Harris came home in fifth position, two minutes and 19 seconds behind the race winner and with it, secured second position in the final world cup rankings, while Wyman’s second place guaranteed the Kona Factory Racing rider fifth position in the final standings.

Great Britain’s Gabriella Durrin finished in 29th position, ending her world cup campaign in 16th place overall.

Both Wyman and Harris’s results bode well for the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships, which take place next weekend (1-2 February) in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.

Great Britain’s Ian Field finished in 35th position in the elite men’s race, won by Belgian Tom Meeusen. The overall world cup victory went to Lars Van Der Haar of the Netherlands, who finished in fourth position in Nommay.

Field finished the world cup season in 22nd position on 164 points.
