Report: Snowdon Sports

Alex Evans led from the start to take victory in the Stockton Cyclo-Cross held at Preston Park on Sunday.

The Martin Race Team member got off to a powerful start and although unattached riders Joe James and Paul Leonard were in contention for most of the race, they never caught Evans and he went on to cross the line 30 seconds ahead of them.

Joe James came in second and Paul Leonard was third. The fastest woman was Sally Buckworth and top youth rider was another Martin Race Team member, Hugo Lutz-Atkinson. He was also a comfortable winner, with a gap of a minute over his closest rival.

The race, sponsored by Godleys Cycles was designed to provide an introduction to cyclo-cross for cyclists and much of the field was made up of first-time racers.

The course was challenging for the beginner with off-camber sections and long, muddy uphill climbs.
