Mark Cotton secured his second Lincolnshire League win of the season when he raced to a solo victory at South Ormsby Hall on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Ellmore Factory Racing rider, from Lincoln, added to his victory in round three when he crossed the line 23 seconds ahead of his nearest rival Steve Lampier (Node 4 Giordana) in the senior race at the event, staged by Alford Wheelers.

The early pace on the first lap was set by Cotton’s team-mate Rick Lister (Ellmore Factory Racing), while Lampier was right on his wheel. But Lampier put in a surge and hit the front, and Cotton moved up to stay with him.

However Lampier overshot a corner, giving Cotton the chance to take the lead and plough on, taking victory by 23 seconds from Lampier, while Sleaford Wheelers’ Ge4orge Thompson battled back from two punctures early in the race to take third spot, 1:10 behind Cotton, and 35sec ahead of fourth-placed Jake Poole (Dirt Wheels Cycles) who was the first junior.

Lister hung on to take fifth spot from his team-mate Darryl Hewson, with the pair finishing first and second in the veterans category.

“When I got a gap on Steve I knew I would have to go hard, so I dug deep and kept the gap,” said Cotton afterwards. “I had good luck in the race, with no issues lapping riders, and everything seemed to fall into place.

“The course is really open for spectators and there’s lots of switchbacks so I could judge what sort of gap I had over Steve. He’s such a class rider I knew I had to go hard and keep watch for him.”
