Sylvain Garde (Addiscombe CC) took his first win of the London League series after overtaking league-leader Darren Barclay (Arctic-SRAM RT).
The Frenchman suffered a series of injuries earlier in the year and missed much of the summer and spring but is finding his way back to form and took a big step forwards here.
Sylvain Garde said: “I’m not the fastest starter, I think I was fifth going into the single track section. A couple of guys went away and I chased them with a few others behind me but I caught them on my own.
“Darren Barclay is very strong but maybe an even worse starter than me! He got away and I tried to catch him with Matt. Then I dropped Matt and as I slowly caught Darren, I could see he had a few mechanical issues.
“But I was having my own issues as I injured my finger opening the frozen car boot in morning, quite a stupid injury! I’ll have to get it seen. But the injury meant I had trouble shifting and breaking, which is really important on this course.
“I got past Darren and out in front I felt comfortable but I kept looking behind me because I know how strong Darren is.
“This was my first win this year having had all spring and summer out because of some bad injuries so I’m just getting back now. I had an operation then a few weeks after coming back I injured my collarbone.
“I’m going to concentrate on the London League. Although I would like to ride in the National Trophy, I like fighting for the win rather than fighting for a top 20 place.”
