John Whittington (CNP-Orbea) stormed away from the rest of the field to claim victory in round seven of the Western Cyclo-Cross League – his third win of the series.
The 24-year-old simply couldn’t be caught as he raced clear of his competitors in what was a very challenging race.
The Pittville Park track was wet and cold, with a skiddy surface making it very difficult for the riders who braved the conditions.
Veteran Phil Blacker (Team Jewson MI Racing) finished on his own in second but there was an almighty battle for third place with Alec Rimbau (ACU), Ben Hall (Bristol RC) and Ben Davies (Cheltenham Cycles) fighting it out. But it was Rimbau who clinched the last place on the podium.
