Location: Pembrey Country Park, Llanelli, Wales
Event: 4 November 2012
Report: Liz Slater/Snowdon Sports
It was back to business as usual for Lee Williams (Team Wiggle) after an end of season break, as the 28-year-old took victory on an exciting new course at Pembrey Country Park in Llanelli on Sunday.
The ground held up well to earlier heavy showers and racing was fast.
Biding his time, Tonypandy-based Williams – the reigning Welsh cyclo-cross and MTB champion - sat in a quartet of riders for the first 20 minutes before edging away.
With Adam King racing in Ipswich this weekend it was left to Andrew Baum (Cwmcarn Paragon) and Jonathan Pugh (CycleTec) to chase and working together they held Williams to 25 seconds on the line.
Ian Jeremiah (Cardiff JIF) was a convincing winner in the Veteran category; League leader Mark James (Team Jewson/MI Racing) was plagued by mechanical problems again and settled for third behind Ross Porter (Cwmcarn Paragon). Stephanie Best (Abergavenny RC) took victory in the women's race.
The heavens opened for the Youth race but failed to dampen an exciting contest. U16 Hefin Evans (Towy Riders) lead from the start but a surge on the penultimate lap by U14 Tomos Nesham (Newport Velo) saw Evans' lead reduced to a sprint for the line.
