Ian Taylor (Craven Energy) led the way for the two-wheeled competitors, winning in a new record time of 32:09 over the six and a half-mile course used for Saturday’s annual Cyclists v Harriers clash in West Yorkshire.
The 39-year-old from Keighley clocked 32:09 for the race, taking advantage of bright and dry conditions for the event to slice ten seconds off Rob Jebb’s old record for the event.
Also beating Jebb’s time was Crosstrax rider Andy Peace, the Haworth vet being just two seconds behind in the sprint for the line.
The first runner home – and the only one in the top ten places – was Ilkley Athletics Club member Tom Adams.
Haworth-based Peace set the early pace with Adams not far behind on foot as they headed out to the moor. But Taylor wasn’t far behind and soon caught the leaders with about three-quarters of the race completed.
The cyclists powered on together and by the finish had put more than two minutes into the Adams. Fastest of the women was Vanessa Harding.
The overall is based on the top ten finishers from each category, and the cyclists were easy winners with 64 points to the harriers’ 172.
