BMX Racers from the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club made the trip up the A1 to Peterborough BMX Club for the ninth and penultimate round of the regional summer series and the 22 Rockets were chasing points for their own and the club's rankings to ensure the Rockets still hold the lead in the regional rankings.

Royston had four novice riders taking part in the event and the action started with Joshua Izzard taking the win in the 7 and under class and brothers Jed and Isaac Warwick took sixth and seventh respectively in the same class to get their BMX racing careers off to a solid start and in the 8-10 year old novice category Taylor Ellis, also competing in his first event away from his home track took second in the B final.

Moving into the expert classes Joshua Abbott took second place in the 6 & under final and in the 7 year class Charlie Todd took third. The 9 year class saw Alfie Salmon take second just ahead of Kele Newall in third and in the class B final Jack Todd finished in second. James King took a fine win in 10 year class and was also rewarded with one of the ‘Rider of the Day' awards and team mate Ted Dalleywater was close behind in fourth.

In the 11 year class the win went to Miles Fisher with Daniel Blanche finishing in second after a race long battle for the top positions. The 12 and 13 year classes were combined for racing on the day and 12 year old Aaron Dalleywater showed the rest of the class the way home with a fine win and another ‘Rider of the Day' award for the Rockets.

In the girls 13-14 class Faye Godfrey raced to second place and James Handleigh, riding in the 15 year category, took another clear win to boost the club points tally and in his first race back after injury, Jordan Godfrey took a solid fourth in the 16 year class. The 17-24 year category saw Andrew Brooker take second in the B final whilst in the Masters category (30+) Richard Townsend took yet another win with Alex Shore Nye taking fourth in the class B Final and in the veteran (40+) class Lee Alexander also lead the class to the line. The only Rocket on the 24" wheeled ‘cruisers' was Matt Salmon who took fourth in the 35-39 year category.

The final round of the 10 event regional series is on 11 September at Braintree and before that the Royston club will be taking part in the final rounds of the national series at Manchester over the weekend of 2-4 September.
