East Anglia BMX Regional Series Round 9
Posted September 6 2010
The ninth and final round of the East Anglia BMX 2010 Summer Series moved to Milton Keynes BMX Club last Sunday to be run on a track that only 7 days before had been under 2-3ft of flood water but a week of hard work by the club members and the local Parks Trust got the track into good condition for the 125 competitors for a competitive days racing and although threatening clouds were around all day, light rain only came for one short period which did not upset the action.
Royston Rockets had seventeen riders across all age classes trying to grab the final few points to improve their regional ranking before going to the British Championships in a few weeks time. Royston's action started with the 7 and Under novices where Royston's Callum Barrow took the first place with Brendan Salmon finishing in 3rd and both will be moving into the expert classes for the 2011 season, whilst in the 8yr Expert category Alfie Salmon finish in 6th and in the 9 year class, Royston's trio of riders filled the main final with James King taking second ahead of Ted Dalleywater in 4th and Marmaduke Birt in 5th.
The 10 year class saw the Rockets' Miles Fisher taking another win and in the 11 year class Aaron Dalleywater came home in second. The 12 year category saw Matthew Harris claim 6th overall and another podium position came Royston's way in the 14 year class where James Handleigh battled for lead all day but had to be happy with 2nd overall. In the 15's the 4th place went to Jordan Godfrey whilst a 2nd place position went to Andrew Brooker in the 16's. In the girls classes Royston's Faye Godfrey took 3rd in the 11-12 year group and Helen Nicholl going one better with a 2nd in the 25+ Ladies cruiser class. In the Masters (30+) class Adam Richards took another 2nd place and in the cruiser classes, Matt Salmon, took 8th in the 35-39 class and Carl Birt wound up the days results with a win in the 45+ category.
The Rockets Tuesday night sessions are coming to an end as the evenings draw in and many members start preparation for the British Cycling BMX British Championships over the weekend of September 18/19 at the international track in Cheddar.
